There's also the option of kayaking and swimming on the lake. Back on board later this evening, enjoy a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on the sundeck before settling down for a wonderful seafood meal.

When we return to Hanoi in the afternoon, we take cyclo (rickshaws) through the maze of alleys in the French Quarter, seeing landmarks like the Opera House and Ly Thai To Park. We next change wheels for a leisurely stroll around the འ streets of the old district,' which are named after the several guilds that formerly set up shop on each street, ranging from silk tailors to traditional medicine shops.
Later this evening, there will be an opportunity to freshen yourself before boarding the 'Reunification Express' train (4-berth sleeper cabin, basic standard) to Hue.
DAY 4: HUE MAUSOLEUM: (B)
Upon arriving in Hue, we begin on a guided sightseeing trip to the capital of the Nguyen empire in the nineteenth century. We travel to the Thien Mu Pagoda, which houses the city's oldest monastery and whose 21m high tower has become a symbol for Hue and the citadel. The Royal Purple Palace is located within the citadel and is an exact replica of the Forbidden City in Beijing, with its majestic fortifications, ceremonial moats, and royal residences, some of which are in ruins.
The Royal Tombs of the Nguyen Kings are located in the countryside, and it is here that we can see Emperor Tu Duc's ornate tomb. As the sun sets, an optional excursion in a large boat down the tranquil Perfume River, which is brilliantly lighted at night, is available.
DAY 5: HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN: (B)
Today we drive over the picturesque Hai Van Pass (Road of the Ocean Clouds), which gives spectacular views of beaches on one side and green hills on the other. We stop en way for a walk along My Khe beach, a stunning stretch of shoreline called "Magnificent Beach".
Perhaps we can cool down in the sea before going south along the coast to Hoi An. The quaint, old-world trade port of Hoi An, with its cobblestone alleys, traditional dwellings, and little storehouses, is the ideal spot to get lost in time. Boutique restaurants, chic waterfront cafés, beautiful craft stores, and craftsmen, including some of Asia's greatest custom tailors (whose services are reasonably priced), may all be found here.
We visit the Chua Ong Pagoda, the Chinese Assembly Hall, the 200-year-old Tam Ky mansion, former merchants' residences, and the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge on a brief walking tour of the charming ancient town. We offer a unique extra Hoi An Street Food add-on during your stay in Hoi An, which explores the city's most popular local spots.

We take our sampan from Cai Be and ride through the maze of canals, witnessing the hustle and bustle of river life.
We stop to view some of the local cottage enterprises that create popcorn, coco chocolates, and paper as we pass by colorful trading boats, houseboats, and youngsters swimming. Today's lunch is provided in a traditional wooden house on Dong Hoa Hiep Island.
