Cantonese Assembly Hall Hoi An. The Cantonese Assembly Hall was established in 1885. It was originally dedicated to Mazu and Confucius, but after 1911, it was changed to commemorate Quan Cong and departed ancestors.

Hoi An City was one of the first locations for Chinese people to do business and settle down, just as it was one of Vietnam's major commercial ports between the 15th and 19th centuries. Since then, several assembly rooms have been built for gathering and trade reasons. This location stands out among Hoi An's five assembly halls nowadays.
Initially, the Assembly Hall of the Cantonese Chinese Congregation was used to honor the Mazu deity (Thien Hau Thanh Mau) and Confucius. However, since 1911, it has been altered to celebrate Guan Yu and other historical figures.
Aside from being dedicated to spiritual ideas, this assembly hall allows the Cantonese community to conduct regular gatherings to encourage each other in business and daily life.
Today, this location is known as Ong Pagoda or Guangzhao Assembly Hall (Hoi Quan Quang Trieu in Vietnamese).
The Cantonese Chinese Congregation's Assembly Hall: Architecture and Structure:
The Cantonese Chinese Congregation's Assembly Hall, shaped like the Chinese character 囯 (meaning "nation"), was constructed primarily of stone and wood. It is a closed campus with a three-door fence and large gardens filled with bonsai plants. A community temple is located in the center, along with a main hall and a garden, which is shared by other assembly halls in Hoi An.
The Cantonese Chinese Congregation's Assembly Hall has three prominent areas: the public campus, the main hall, and the backyard.
The Public Campus:
As soon as guests enter this assembly hall, they will discover a three-door gate facing Tran Phu Street. The stone gate features elaborate carvings of mascots such as dragons, phoenixes, and unicorns. Visitors can't stop appreciating the skills of artisans who have been around for hundreds of years when they see these stunning images.
Stepping inside, visitors will notice a fountain in the center of the courtyard. It is adorned with a spectacular dragon statue that represents the tale "Carp jumps over the dragon gate". On the eastern and western sides, two rows of structures connect the main hall to the previous hall. The surrounding walls are covered in magnificent artwork, which will amaze you.
The Main Hall:
The tremendously big main hall is separated by three altars. The center one is used to honour Guan Yu and his renowned mount, the Red Hare. The two surviving altars honor the gods of Earth (Phuoc Duc Chanh Than) and Wealth (Thai Bach Tinh Quan).
The Backyard:
The backyard is located behind the main hall and may be accessed via the main hall's side walk. There is a giant painting of Guan Yu on the wall.

Many significant historical relics remain in a state of preservation, including:
A pair of celadon-glazed porcelain and four huge horizontal lacquered boards.
A copper censer measuring 1.6m high and 0.6m wide.
Images of numerous plays and materials regarding the Guangdong community's daily existence.

The Lantern Festival, in particular, takes place on the first full moon of the lunar month. This event attempts to pray for a new year of health, fortune, and wealth, and it attracts a large number of travelers from across the world.
On June 24th (according to the lunar calendar), the Guan Yu Birthday Festival will be held to honor this outstanding general as well.
