  • To He Craft (Animal Cake):

Tò he, also known as "Thuong Bot", is a traditional Vietnamese children's toy that may be consumed. Making "Tò he" has become a traditional practice in Vietnam's rural areas, particularly in the North. The term "Tò he" originated in China and spread to Southern Vietnam through Chinese migration. It is unclear when. Another idea is that it was caused by Northern artisans relocating to the South. However, its popularity is lower than in the North. Originally, "tò he" was a product made of flour used for offerings, thus they often took the shape of animals such as peacocks, chickens, buffaloes, cows, pigs, fish, etc., hence people named this product "bird and stork toys".

In certain Northern regions, it is also known as "Con Bánh" because, in addition to animal shapes, "Con Bánh" is made into banana bunches, areca nuts, pig's feet, sticky rice dishes, and other items to construct a tray of offerings for the temple. This product has a hue that is comparable to actual items and contains a small amount of sugar, making it edible. Later, the product was linked to a trumpet with a small amount of malt on the tip. When blown, it created a "Tò te" sound, therefore it was presumably named "Tò te", which subsequently became "Tò he".

  • Coconut leaf weaves (Vietnam Origami):

Children have made hilarious toys out of the wild water coconut trees that grow abundantly along the river banks and canals in the Southern countryside. These folk toys, which are both simple and artistic, have become popular tourist items for travelers to the South.

Almost all Mekong Delta youngsters can fold water coconut leaves into animal and toy forms. The equipment and supplies for making grasshoppers, dragonflies, fish, flowers, or alarm clocks are pretty simple: a few water coconut leaves, scissors, a paper cutter, a stapler, watercolor pens... The water coconut leaves used to fold toys must be old enough to maintain flexibility and a bright yellow hue. If you pick leaves that are too young, they will be difficult to shape because they are too soft; on the other hand, leaves that are too old will be very hard and easily broken. With a few bends, folds, and turns, a brilliant yellow water coconut leaf has transformed into a beautiful rose. With a few folds, twists, and pins, you can transform the water coconut leaves into hilarious and lovely animals. With a few dotted shadows from watercolor pens or a few skilled cuts with scissors, the fish, crabs, peacocks, and pigeons will have eyes, fins, and tails that are full of life and beauty.

  • Calligraphy:

Calligraphy was initially defined as a means of handwriting letters precisely and artistically. However, calligraphy has evolved into the art of styled writing, generating visual pictures that reflect the author's profound meaning. Calligraphy started in China and spread to Vietnam during the early years of the Han Dynasty. The first Vietnamese calligraphy work discovered was the inscription "Dai Tuy Cuu Chan Quan Bao An Dao Trang Chi Bi Van" in "seal" form on the forehead of a stele in Truong Xuan hamlet (Thanh Hoa). This calligraphy masterpiece is now on exhibit at the historical museum.

Vietnamese calligraphy appears on a variety of materials, including paper, cloth, wood, stone, fruit, bamboo paintings, mother-of-pearl inlay, and even ceramics. Vietnamese calligraphy is popularized in two ways: The first approach stems from nostalgia for a time when Chinese and Nom characters were dominant. Artists portrayed Vietnamese characters (with Latin letters) in the shape of round or square Chinese characters, or "reverse" writing, which can only be read well from the back of the page. The second direction conveyed the shape of Vietnamese letters in the Western writing system known as the Latin alphabet.
