Danang Museum Of Cham Sculpture Directions:

The Museum of Cham Sculpture, the greatest Cham museum in the nation and a source of pride for the citizens of the coastal city, is situated at the intersection of Bach Dang and Trung Nu Vuong Streets, on the Han River's bank. It is one of the many sights that visitors to Da Nang must see.

Danang Museum Of Cham Sculpture History:

The Ecole Francaise d'Extreme Orient (EFEO) began work on the Museum of Cham Sculpture's foundation at the end of the 19th century, even though it didn't begin to take shape until 1915. From Quang Binh to Binh Dinh province, antiquities from Cham temples and towers were collected and displayed at Le Jardin de Tourane Park, which is located on a small hill near the Han River.

After four years of building, the Cham Museum Da Nang first welcomed visitors in 1919. The museum has undergone numerous restorations and additions, making it the perfect place for history buffs to discover the legacy of the once-prosperous Cham Kingdom. The greatest exhibition of Champa cultural items in the entire world is housed in this Da Nang museum, which spans a total space of 6,673 square meters. In which, 2,000 square meters are devoted to showing antiquities, while the remaining space displays a unique collection of images and documents related to Cham culture.

The museum was formally built in 1915 with the intention of preserving and showcasing the relics of the Champa civilization.

The museum welcomed visitors in 1919.

Due to the massive amount of newly discovered artifacts, the museum had its first enlargement in 1930. At the same time, the tour route was altered while maintaining a decent chronology, with sculptures on exhibit in galleries named after regions.

2002 saw the second phase of the museum's construction, which included the addition of a storage area, a repair workshop, research spaces, and exhibition areas for current Cham culture, which featured a collection of the Cham ethnic group's costumes, musical instruments, and festival photographs.

Vietnam named the Museum of Cham Sculpture a "first-class museum" in 2011, recognizing the museum's significant contributions to the preservation of Cham-Pa's cultural heritage values.

In 2016, the city of Da Nang refurbished and restored the museum's structures while preserving their original design. An education center, reception area, auditorium, thematic exhibition rooms, a gift shop, etc. were among the new features in the renovated structure.

Danang Museum Of Cham Sculpture Highlights:

Delaval and Auclai, two French architects, created the original structure. Henri Parmentier, the head of the EFEO Institution's Department of Archeology, made the recommendation for the museum's architectural style, which combines Cham traditional art with classical European Gothic architecture.

The Museum of Cham Sculpture, with its distinctive pyramid-shaped roof, blends in uniquely with the surroundings, drawing inspiration from the design of Cham Temples. Large spaces with lots of windows also provide natural light to the museum. Even after more than a century, the original architectural characteristics are still largely intact, despite only a few minor changes.

More than 2,000 cultural objects from the Cham dynasty are currently housed in the museum, but only around 500 of them are on exhibit because the remainder are meticulously stored in the warehouse.

Visitors will have the chance to view hundreds of artifacts, including national treasures and numerous excellent Champa sculptures made of diverse materials from the 5th to the 15th century, including sandstone, terracotta, metal, etc. The items seem to be variants on a number of common themes, such as fertility symbols, mythological animals, and architectural decorations of Hindu and Buddhist gods, which illustrate the varied cultural and religious lives of the ancient Champa people in the central region of Vietnam.

The antiques are organized into several location-based galleries, such as the Tra Kieu Gallery, Thap Ma Gallery, My Son Gallery, etc., depending on where they were discovered, to give guests a convenient and simple journey. You can view the heyday of the ancient country by going to the museum.
