Arrived at Cu Chi Tunnels and started to explore how magnificent it was.
During the Vietnam War, the system was expanded into an assembly complex that allowed Communist guerilla fighters to make surprise attacks before blending into the ground, shelter soldiers, transfer communications and supplies, get medical attention, and seek cover from aerial bombardment. The Cu Chi Tunnels served as a military headquarters and were essential to the Vietnamese forces' victory over the American troops in South Vietnam. It provided a secluded base of operations from which to organize and carry out effective military campaigns, most famously the successful Tet Offensive in 1968.
These well-known tunnels in Saigon bore testimony to the atrocities of terrible wars and served as a symbol of the Vietnamese people's tenacity and inventiveness throughout the turbulent history of their nation. The Cu Chi Tunnels were named one of the world's coolest destinations by The New York Times and one of the top seven epic and daring attractions in Southeast Asia by Travel magazine.
The 250 kilometers or so that made up the Cu Chi tunnel system used to stretch to the Cambodian border, 120 kilometers of which have been sufficiently conserved and are currently open to the public. Built on laterite and clay soil, the Cu Chi Tunnels Saigon complex amazes tourists with its extraordinary resilience and construction. On the ground floor, several elaborate booby traps and fake bunkers have been set up to confuse and impale adversaries. The tunnel openings are hardly wide enough for Vietnamese people to squeeze through; the wooden manhole covers are covered with foliage.
The secret system's subterranean portion consists of three deep levels that are connected by a central axis and extend to the Saigon River. The first level, which is three meters below the surface, is resistant to chemical warfare, gunfire, tanks, and armored vehicles, while the second level, which is six meters above the surface, is resistant to explosives. With a height of more than 12 meters above the ground, the third level is the lowest. In addition to hidden vents that went to the basement, escape hatches between levels were included to combat harmful gas. The communication channels have a width of 0.81.2 meters and a thickness of 1.5 meters.
Cu Chi Commissioners would lead soldiers and retreat to the Saigon River in an emergency, and the Ben Dinh Tunnels are strategically located close to this river. From 1968 to 1975, it was widely utilized. When you initially arrive at the location, there will be a thatched hut with a map of the area, tunnel drawings, and historical movies in black and white to help you learn about the past. As you make your way through the forest, local guides will point out the scary booby traps and hidden holes to you. You will discover historic buildings, exquisite exhibits, and fascinating anecdotes about the people who formerly called these tunnels home after spending 45 to an hour exploring them.
Ben Duoc Tunnels is a well-known location for daring tourists who wish to experience personal knowledge of Saigon's underground city. It allows guests to test their mettle by making their way through difficult and constrained tunnels at a deeper level. With cementation and lighting, the ancient tunnels have been reconstructed and expanded to make the journey less frightening and safer. Every ten meters, there is an additional emergency escape. These practical exercises will help you create a realistic image of the difficult living circumstances that Vietnamese soldiers faced during the conflict. Historical sites including the Ben Duoc Memorial Temple and Hoang Cam Kitchen are also located in Ben Duoc.
